Casa Cadaval is located 80km to the north of Lisbon, Portugal, on the left bank of the river Tejo. The Herdade de Muge estate has been in the family of Alvares Pereira de Melo (Cadaval) since 1648. The vineyards currently in production occupy an area of about 50 hectares of which 46 hectares contain the red varieties: Aragonez, Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante Bouschet and Merlot. The rest is for the white varieties such as Arinto, Verdelho, Fernao Pires, Viognier and Riesling. The harvest varies between 3 to 6 tonnes per hectare, wich is well below the regional average enabling us to produce concentrated high quality wines. David Ferreira, the winemaker, is revolutionizing the quality and consistency of the wines from Casa Cadaval, one of the most historic producers from the Tejo region.
